Reclamation Road – Bug Visits Kahn Compound

Tonight Bug (Michael Deakin of Heritage Salvage in Petaluma) is interviewing me on his radio show in Santa Rosa (Calif.). KSRO 1350 AM with Jaxon and Bug, 5:30 PM tonight (July 10, 2012).

About Lloyd Kahn

Lloyd Kahn started building his own home in the early '60s and went on to publish books showing homeowners how they could build their own homes with their own hands. He got his start in publishing by working as the shelter editor of the Whole Earth Catalog with Stewart Brand in the late '60s. He has since authored six highly-graphic books on homemade building, all of which are interrelated. The books, "The Shelter Library Of Building Books," include Shelter, Shelter II (1978), Home Work (2004), Builders of the Pacific Coast (2008), Tiny Homes (2012), and Tiny Homes on the Move (2014). Lloyd operates from Northern California studio built of recycled lumber, set in the midst of a vegetable garden, and hooked into the world via five Mac computers. You can check out videos (one with over 450,000 views) on Lloyd by doing a search on YouTube: <http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=lloyd+kahn>

I kinda like the jumpy nature of this little show, even though it seems incongruous with your usual pace Lloyd. The chicken enterprise seems to be expanding!

    Lloyd,
Thank you for sharing your space. As with many of your pics, I seem to see potential posters/art in so many frames of the video…..(I am not artistic, just enjoy the view)… Maybe you could build a little house in a back corner and have a sort of resident Artist/Hermit, to paint the seasons of your journey…grin. As with your books, much enjoyed.

Okay,I have to ask, is it a "good" thing that the roof gives? (i have no knowledge/skills in this…just wondering)

  4. Lloyd Kahn says:

Anon, No not a good thing, but here with no snow load, it seems perfectly OK. (Was unintentional.)
