Little Richard (And More!) on a Sunny Thursday Morning

All alone here, and helped by caffeine and mota, I’m cruising YouTube. What set me off was hearing Little Richard singing “The Girl Can’t Help It,” and the line “She’s got a lot of what you call the most…”*

The other night, Sirius DJ Michael Des Barres had said to check out the YouTube video of Little Richard performing the song in the movie (

), which I did, then spotted Richard and his crack band doing Lucille. He was so beautiful! Whatta voice!

*Another of Richard’s great lines: “It ain’t what you eat, it’s the way how you chew it.”

Then I found this (rare) clip of Richard, in much later life, doing Hound Dog:

Well, over on the side bar was Big Mama Thornton doing Hound Dog (um-uhm!) and if you leave the video rolling after her performance, you’ll get an unbelievable lineup from the American Folk Blues Festivals in the UK, 1963-66: Sunny Boy, Muddy, Lightnin’, Sugar Pie, Howlin’ Wolf, Big Joe…oh my!

To go straight to Folk Blues Festival:

It’s 59 minutes, is it good! Yeah, sorry about the over-enthusiasm. Can’t help it.
