GIMME SHELTER – Fall 2011

I’ve been sending out email newsletters called GIMME SHELTER for some years now, to a mailing list of around 600.The frequency is a lot less often now that I’m blogging. We post each one on Shelter’s website. Here is the latest: https://www.shelterpub.com/_gimme/_2011-09-28/gimme_shelter-2011-09-28.html

About Lloyd Kahn

Lloyd Kahn started building his own home in the early '60s and went on to publish books showing homeowners how they could build their own homes with their own hands. He got his start in publishing by working as the shelter editor of the Whole Earth Catalog with Stewart Brand in the late '60s. He has since authored six highly-graphic books on homemade building, all of which are interrelated. The books, "The Shelter Library Of Building Books," include Shelter, Shelter II (1978), Home Work (2004), Builders of the Pacific Coast (2008), Tiny Homes (2012), and Tiny Homes on the Move (2014). Lloyd operates from Northern California studio built of recycled lumber, set in the midst of a vegetable garden, and hooked into the world via five Mac computers. You can check out videos (one with over 450,000 views) on Lloyd by doing a search on YouTube:

  1. The link is broken (doesn't include the trailing "l").

Great newsletter. I can't decide if I'm more taken by that trail shot or by the cover of your new book. Hmm… No reason to have to choose between them!

  2. Hey Lloyd
It looks like your new book might be immensely popular. As you have already noticed the subject matter just seems to get more and more interest in the media. So my question is how can I pre-order a copy as I'm starting to think that may be the only way to actually get one for sure?
