Tears of Joy

I didn’t know about the Sunday concert (We Are One-The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial) on HBO, I just happened to walk by the TV at the precise moment that Bettye LaVette walked onstage and started singing. “I was born by the river…” of Sam Cooke’s A Change is Gonna Come. I was riveted. And then what happens? Out strolls Jon Bon Jovi, who I’ve never seen before, and what a voice! The duet was gorgeous. “A change is gonna come, yes it will…” It made me cry. All these years of darkness and greed, can it be true that the sun is going to shine on this country again?

About Lloyd Kahn

Lloyd Kahn started building his own home in the early '60s and went on to publish books showing homeowners how they could build their own homes with their own hands. He got his start in publishing by working as the shelter editor of the Whole Earth Catalog with Stewart Brand in the late '60s. He has since authored six highly-graphic books on homemade building, all of which are interrelated. The books, "The Shelter Library Of Building Books," include Shelter, Shelter II (1978), Home Work (2004), Builders of the Pacific Coast (2008), Tiny Homes (2012), and Tiny Homes on the Move (2014). Lloyd operates from Northern California studio built of recycled lumber, set in the midst of a vegetable garden, and hooked into the world via five Mac computers. 1. This is a great blog. I hadn't seen this performance and I'm so glad I caught it – so randomly – on your blog. Plus you are now my main man with the golden eye for arch. details. Thanks for sharing. I also love God's Gym. Keep pulling over, daddy-O. – Rayne
