Sauna in Haida Gwai (Queen Charlotte Islands, British Columbia)

Some photos of this unique little sauna by Colin Doane on Haida Gwaii (First Nations’ name for were the Queen Charlotte Islands) sent us when I was on a book-signing tour. Looks like whalebone rafters in front.

About Lloyd Kahn

Lloyd Kahn started building his own home in the early '60s and went on to publish books showing homeowners how they could build their own homes with their own hands. He got his start in publishing by working as the shelter editor of the Whole Earth Catalog with Stewart Brand in the late '60s. He has since authored six highly-graphic books on homemade building, all of which are interrelated. The books, "The Shelter Library Of Building Books," include Shelter, Shelter II (1978), Home Work (2004), Builders of the Pacific Coast (2008), Tiny Homes (2012), and Tiny Homes on the Move (2014). Lloyd operates from Northern California studio built of recycled lumber, set in the midst of a vegetable garden, and hooked into the world via five Mac computers.     It is quite stimulating to get in contact with other self buider and your publications . I discover your books just recently. I’ve receive ‘’Builder of the Pacific Coast ‘’ as a gift in November , fell in love with it, got your 2 other books on building , and just finish to read your entire blog . Top knotch . I am a passionate of building . I work essentially with wood and try to put as much curves that I could using thin stuff or twist frames . I live in Québec ,Canada where the cold temperature puts many limits on the design so it is good to see the work of others living with different constraints. Thank you for all .Claude
