About Lloyd Kahn
Lloyd Kahn started building his own home in the early '60s and went on to publish books showing homeowners how they could build their own homes with their own hands. He got his start in publishing by working as the shelter editor of the
Whole Earth Catalog with Stewart Brand in the late '60s. He has since authored six highly-graphic books on homemade building, all of which are interrelated. The books, "The Shelter Library Of Building Books," include

You and Leslie have been an inspiration to me over the years to the point that when I was first living in the house I built, I photocopied and taped to my fridge a picture of your house and yard in all its practical, beautiful and somewhat unkempt summer glory to remind me that this is what I wanted to aspire to. I lived in that house for 20 years until I had to accept that the property and house were too much for me to continue to keep up and sold it to my next door neighbours. They love both house and gardens. I have many pictures of how it changed in those years and I think that fridge picture was what helped me keep an ideal always firmly in place. You have so much to feel good about. Life is a wonderful ride isn’t it? Even now 😉
