Healing Broken Bones

I fractured my wrist two months ago. Once I got the cast off, I took these steps to hasten bone healing and restoration of hand strength:

Comfrey

 a) compresses with fresh leaves and/or roots, wrapped in Saranwrap, then velcro bandage, then heat pad for a few hours. You can also purchase dried comfrey leaves and roots.

 b) Dr Christopher’s Tissue and Bone Ointment; check out the 400 customer reviews on Amazon here.

Comfrey is a magical plant. It’s also called Knitbone. I used it years ago on cracked ribs and made me feel better instantly.

Medical Marijuana

Another miracle: Mary’s Transdermal patches — cannabidol, CBD (the type marijuana that has healing properties, but does not get you stoned). They cost $20 each, but boy, have they worked for me. Left on for 12 hours. Took away pain. The next morning I forgot I’d had an injury. With about 5 days of these two remedies I’ve gone from maybe 50% to 80% of full recovery. https://www.marysmedicinals.com/

Calcium citrate and vitamin D3

My doc recommended.

Prunes

Yes, check them out. https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/wellness/2015/06/23/07152c22-1909-11e5-ab92-c75ae6ab94b5_story.html

Bone broth

I’ve sort of done a blitz with these treatments and it’s wonderful to get my hand working again. I haven’t actually gone to rehab yet, because there is so much I do naturally in my daily life with my hands that I’m not sure I need “exercises.” Each day I do more.

  1. LLoyd, i know you used to love your skating and had your accident. Glad to see your healing well. If you do ever decide to get back on your land surfer these are great for protecting schaphoid and other bones in the wrist. /Users/timmarch/Desktop/297_WristGuard.jpg

  2. 17 years ago, I was picking blackberries on my roof when I got dizzy and fell, with my leg wrapped in blackberry vines. This was the roof of my underground house, so the height wasn't the problem. I felt the sickening snap of my tibia and my foot was turned upside down and at a 90 degree angle. I needed sugery and a few screws to put my leg and ankle back together. Since I had an organic CSA farm in Vermont, I also had hundreds of comfrey plants. I kept poultices on me for days. The bone doc had never seen a fracture like that heal so quickly 🙂 Adele Dawson showed me how to make a drink with comfrey, violet, raspberry leaves and mint. Good stuff. She was a cool old lady that I will never forget. The world could use a few more herbalists.

  3. Lloyd, so glad it is healing well.

Very interesting what you have used to improve healing.
I have read quite a lot about Comfrey Leaves/Poultices/Salves lately, and a few similar. However, you are the first person I "know" to have actually used it. Glad to hear you are pleased with it.

Now I am going to hunt up some dried Comfrey leaves to give a try on a few things/have on hand. Did you purchase same at Health Food Store?

    now as to
Mary's Transdermal patches — cannabidol, CBD (the type marijuana that has healing properties, but does not get you stoned).

I suppose that is something only available to purchase in the United States? Just wondering as it sounds like a good product.

  4. Wendy (hope you see this)

I have read online a bit about growing Comfrey, and wondered about growing it myself/how to use it safely. There seems to be warning about this or that, some say use dried leaves/some dried flowers/some the root. etc..

Could I ask what/how you used it/made poultice?
Could I get the recipe for the healing drink?

Some said it was very prolific/pretty much a weed, and if grown isolate it. Would it grow in a pot in the house? etc etc

I am going to hunt around for a plant/seed/root (which does it grow from) to try and grow, and at least will try it in a pot. (does it need a long growing season? I am up in Canada, and we have darn little growing season where I live.

thanks for any info. (there is lots on the net, but sometimes it is hard to wade through)

  5. Might be worth at least one trip to the physical therapist. The ones I worked with after my wrist fracture really knew their stuff. If your progress is as good as you believe, they'll tell you. If not, tell them "This is the one visit you got me — what do you want me to do/know?"

  6. oh, and in case you want a little help rehabbing those muscles, try mustard… (seriously)
    google
    Mustard Muscles

    and check out

    Also Google
    Montmorency Cherries Muscles

    Sour Cherries Muscles

re the Mustard, I do know someone who as a young man stared eating several mustard sandwhiches a day (seriously). A typical geek, science nerd. He pretty much did no exercise, but over a couple of years, had some darn good shoulder/arm muscles going on. Years later he quit the Mustard Sandwhiches, and …So, just say'n may be something to the Mustard stuff.

  7. comfrey poultice
grind fresh raw green comfrey in meat grinder, collect the pulp and juice and plaster it on wound, wrap tight with gauze and hold it tight for awhile
poultice will harden almost like a cast
do it again after a few hours
    reduces swelling, heal fast
How does it work? wiki says:
"The plant contains the small organic molecule allantoin, which is thought to stimulate cell growth and repair while also depressing inflammation.'
I have read that allantoin helps damaged cell walls become permeable again, thereby increasing circulation to the damaged area.

  8. How do compounds in comfrey leaf poultice help? What physical process gets them from skin surface to bones? How are they incorporated into bones?

  9. Hi Lloyd,
been hunting for this posting, and the suggestions here in to see if they might help someone with some disc trouble/arthritis. Glad I found it, and going to pass all these suggestion on. I realise it is a different sort of problem, but…not likely to hurt anything either.

now that this post/comments is likely out of general reading, would you really say that you tried any/many of the suggestions above, and do you think they contributed to broken wrist healing? (these things do generally heal in time…so..). If you tried them, have you had complete recovery in wrist? Any lingering after effects (arthritis?)… You are so active, and eat so healthy, I suspect you’ve not had spinal disc trouble/arthritis, but just in case you have a bit of it, am wondering if you noticed any difference in that with any of the above treatments?

    Thanks much,
