Brooklyn Brownstone Painted Pink

Your guess is as good as mine. Neighbors must be horrified.

About Lloyd Kahn

Lloyd Kahn started building his own home in the early '60s and went on to publish books showing homeowners how they could build their own homes with their own hands. He got his start in publishing by working as the shelter editor of the Whole Earth Catalog with Stewart Brand in the late '60s. He has since authored six highly-graphic books on homemade building, all of which are interrelated. The books, "The Shelter Library Of Building Books," include Shelter, Shelter II (1978), Home Work (2004), Builders of the Pacific Coast (2008), Tiny Homes (2012), and Tiny Homes on the Move (2014). Lloyd operates from Northern California studio built of recycled lumber, set in the midst of a vegetable garden, and hooked into the world via five Mac computers. 1. Um, well, at least they did a very nice job of painting it a lurid shade of pink…

Just on the eastern border of Akron there are two Levitt (sp?) houses that are only a couple lots away from each other but on opposite sides of the street (Home St.). The first house is painted to match the brownstone in this picture, and the second is painted the most brilliant shades of lavender and purple. Was always taken aback by the sight of them whenever I drove by… Don't live in Akron anymore but I'll always remember those two houses!

  2. Pepto Bismol pink! UUUgh! I've seen cars painted the same color and several were flat finish. This is not a San Francisco painted lady, this is the other kind of painted lady.

  3. I absolutely agree the pink highlights the fine detail work….

On the other hand, it seems a shame to paint a Brown Stone that has its own inherent style. Reminds me of seeing cool old timbers in buildings that are painted over, hiding the real beauty and wabi-sabi of the wood.

The practical hand sees that paint as future maintenance time/costs…

    Craig.

  4. PINK is mostly a Lesbi ID color…Lesbian community in Greaer NY Areas do use it. That s what it is xxxx LOVE Lesbian sex activity nearby (watch , participate, TRIO etc) That s NY man !
