About Lloyd Kahn

Lloyd Kahn started building his own home in the early '60s and went on to publish books showing homeowners how they could build their own homes with their own hands. He got his start in publishing by working as the shelter editor of the Whole Earth Catalog with Stewart Brand in the late '60s. He has since authored six highly-graphic books on homemade building, all of which are interrelated. The books, "The Shelter Library Of Building Books," include Shelter, Shelter II (1978), Home Work (2004), Builders of the Pacific Coast (2008), Tiny Homes (2012), and Tiny Homes on the Move (2014). Lloyd operates from Northern California studio built of recycled lumber, set in the midst of a vegetable garden, and hooked into the world via five Mac computers.   2. Really liked this Lloyd. A true flash back. And Annie B, Kate Wolf one of the best. Really miss her. Also Lloyd of course this was all before Ronnie Raygun became the president and we all know how ugly it has gotten. So yes it was a different time one I really miss. But again it's all a state of mind.

  3. In 1970 I was one of those long hair dropouts/drop-ins living in a commune just a few miles outside of Boonville. I was 18 and my first time away from home. I remember a coffee shop, a market, a post office, a hotel, and a hardware shop, and a guy named Oscar who cut trees and firewood around town. We came to participate in a Utopia greater than ourselves. Former students, former teachers from all over. We lived in tents of 6 mil plastic and huddled around fires at night.
